Happy almost autumn!
How’s everyone doing? This a very wild time of year for many of us because it’s so, so close to holiday season—aka the time of year we’re more likely to be able to take time off from work and/or school. Hang in there, y’all!
While we wait, here’s a list (in links) for safekeeping on the many ways microaggressions can show up in our daily lives. Notably, we’ll start with a video about a queer Black man who was forced to leave his corporate role due to microaggressions that challenged his intersectional identities.
Microaggressions are characterized as daily, sometimes subtle—often inadvertent—interactions or actions expressing prejudice toward historically marginalized groups.
As Andrew Limbong mentioned in NPR, “…the "micro" in microaggression doesn't mean that these acts can't have big, life-changing impacts.”
Microaggressions are layered and can affect our mental, physical and emotional health. Finding community to speak out against them can help us not just get through our days, but feel seen—which is extremely important.
